Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts come to Marietta

 We were so thrilled to have Edyta Sitar as a guest at the East Cobb Quilters’ Guild meeting on Thursday evening/Friday morning. She’s a delightful speaker that captivated the entire audience and “wowed” us all with the 80+ quilts she brought. Such inspiration…we all just wanted to run right home and start sewing!

 

After the guild meeting, Edyta and her personal “Quilt Holder”, husband Michael, came to Little Quilts for a Bed Turning (a giant Show & Tell).

Mystery Quilts - Lots of them!

We were so excited to see all the completed mystery quilts at the Reveal Party several weeks ago - we thought you might enjoy seeing how great the pattern looked in so many different fabrics! Mystery quilts are a lot of fun because you don’t get to see the pattern up front. You begin by choosing fabrics that contrast well together and then pick up “clues” at the shop each month for piecing the quilt. In the end, you have a spectacular quilt! We have a new mystery series, “Shh, Don’t Tell”, starting in August – we’d love to have you join us for this fun adventure. Call the shop to see how easy it is!

Barbara picked patriotic colors for her throw-size version and changed the pattern slightly by adding pieced blocks in the border. The quilt is a gift for her Brother-In-Law. Go USA!

Beth used Mill Girls fabric designed by Judy Rothermel for her reproduction-style quilt.

Chris made a queen-size quilt. Love the fabric she plans to use for her border.

Doris selected a beautiful floral border and we helped her select fabrics to coordinate.

 Freda picked her own kit using some fabrics from the Hampton Farm line of fabric. We loved how the blue fabric gave the star points “zing”!

Jenny picked her own kit for her version, “Quaintly Queen”, in teals and reds.

Sylvia opted for Jo Morton fabrics and achieved an elegant reproduction look for her quilt.

Stacy found a contemporary border fabric from Moda “Salt Air” that she loved and her kit was designed around it.

Like Nancy and Tina, many of you selected fabrics from the Cinnamon Spice fabric line from Moda for a beautiful floral quilt.

Colorful Sunflowers

Little Quilts teacher, Anne Anderberg, brought her granddaughter in to pick out fabric for a quilt and then Anne had to come up with a pattern. We LOVED what she came up with! Anne used an old Trudy Hughes pattern for the blocks and enlarged a small sunflower appliqué pattern for the center. Her machine quilter quilted it with a really cute sunflower design. What a treasure for Anne’s granddaughter.

Susan made the 2011 Saturday Sampler into king size .what a beautiful setting she did!

Bali POPS!

Amanda’s mother sent her a BaliPop and asked her to make a quilt. Love the soft, summery colors!  The pre-cut 2 1/2" strips are such timesavers.

Quilt by Kathie West (it was a LQ Block of the Month).  She is doing another one right now.  Check it out!

This quilt belongs to our own, Kathy Niemann, however the top was sewn by more friends and LQ employees to replace a top just like it that was stolen from Little Quilts over 10 years ago.   Kathy did make that quilt as a block of the month program.  The pattern was called Garden Club.  It was published later in a Leisure Arts book called Garden Club Quilts.

All seasons are well represented.  Front and center is a trunk show of quilts from the 'Seasons' series of quilt books by Kim Diehl.  Kits available for the one in the middle.  Isn't it great?!

Little quilts go anywhere

Our friend Iris sent us her picture of little quilt placed in her spare bathroom. She made “Oh My Stars!” from Lori Smith/From My Heart to Your Hands patterns.  Lori has a series of patterns called “Four Plus One Equals Fun!"  Take five fat 1/4ths and have enough fabric for two small quilts, or one with a scrappy backing!

Have you been watching Allison's progress on her 1/4" queen size hexie quilt. In a previous blog, we also showed the beginning of her Judie Rothermel entry. She's gone to a larger size - 1/2" hexie! Remember her entry still has to be at least 40" x 40"! We keep you all posted on this great wallhanging!

 

 

 

 

Start planning!

For those of you as addicted to the “Downton Abbey” television series as we are, we know you’ll be just as excited as we were to get a sneak peek at the new “Downton Abbey” fabric line from Andover that will be making it's debut in November. We will be receiving the entire line (39 bolts!) that will be used in the clothing and quilts in the Series 5 episodes in 2015. That will give us all plenty of time to imagine the costumes and make our own quilts with this beautiful fabric before the shows even air! WOW!

Oh MY Stars!

Marshall used up a lot of scraps on this Friendship Star quilt top. A great stash-buster!  Marshall has made a lot of quilts.  I am sure he will give me this one. Right, Marshall?

We currently have the trunk show for the “Celebrations” series from Silver Thimble Quilt Co. 

Each quilt in the series makes a square quilt perfect to use as a table topper or wall hanging. The first quilt in the series is “Bittersweet & Berries”. There is nothing better than a beautiful fall day and any hint of crispness in the air has us pulling out our quilts! We’re sure this will be your favorite quilt for taking the chill off cool fall evenings!

 

We love Christmas and love having a holiday quilt in every corner of our homes. You’ll enjoy a splash of holiday joy with the second quilt in the series, “Merry and Bright.” 

 

Third in the series is “SnowBound” with snowmen that will keep you warm all winter long. Stop by the shop or our booth at the East Cobb Quilters’ Guild show to see all the quilts in the series up close.

 

Creative uses for Olde American Antiques postcard prints

Amanda made these fun treasure boxes for her grandchildren by decoupaging Olde America Antiques postcard quilt blocks onto boxes. She used a cigar box for the Civil War Generals! Olde America Antiques has a huge collection of antique postcards that are printed onto 100% cotton sateen that many of us have incorporated into our quilts, but we love this unique idea for using them.
