BEST SHOW and TELL EVER !! Just Judie contest entries from Little Quilts customers

Twenty Five was a lucky number for Little Quilts. We had twenty five entries in the Just Judie Contest from Marcus Fabrics honoring Judi Rothermel’s 25^th anniversary of designing fabrics. We won the contest with the most entries from a quilt shop! 

We want to share with you.  Some of them are even finalists.  We're so proud of all the entrants.

Barb made her Nine Patch variation with the fabrics from Judi’s 25^th anniversary collection and her favorite backgrounds. It’s a nice throw size quilt.

Beth made a king size 72” square and she quilted it herself on her long arm machine.

 

We love Debbie’s classic Snowball quilt – a nice throw size also.

Another Debbie’s quilt looks like crazy patch, and her fabrics look like it’s an antique quilt! She plans to add some crazy patch stitching.

Deborah - Firsts

This is the first time Doris even entered a contest. She had a good time and loves her wall hanging.

Jane’s quilt is great..fun to look at….it creates a secondary pattern of stars and square in a square blocks.

Janice’s quilt has a great combination of English paper piecing, foundation piecing and great machine quilting. She works at Little Quilts too! And would you believe, she’ll be teaching ‘how to make a modern quilt!”

Jean went through her stash and combined it with the 25^th Anniversary collection to make this cozy throw. It looks like an old quilt too!

Jeanette combined the Civil War ladies printed fabric with a soldier block for this nice tribute to ladies and their soldiers.

Marty did this wonderful tribute to Judie with lots of fabrics and special meanings…northern flowers, southern flowers and more. You’ll need to study this quilt closely. Marty teaches at Little Quilts.

“Karen’s Friends” is the name of the quilt one of our teachers started for the contest. Karen Mowery lost her battle with colon cancer and our Reproduction Study Group, that she belonged to, finished the quilt by making the Log Cabin Blocks. Karen had made the blocks with the little girls and we finished it. It’s a special quilt.

Libby made the pinwheel blocks with the 25^th Anniversary collection and combined them with a creamy background for this classic throw size quilt.

Lynn’s daughter’s friend borrowed her entry for a picnic when he proposed to his girlfriend. Lynn made this pinwheel quilt with blocks on point for a throw or small twin size quilt. What a nice memory for this quilt.

Linda works at Little Quilts, and also teaches the Hunter Star class with Studio 180’s technique rulers. Each white star has 8 different star points. She made 25 stars to honor Judie Rothermel’s 25 years designing for Marcus.

Mary combined Churn Dash blocks with quarter square triangle blocks to make this wall hanging. It also looks like an antique quilt. Great colors!

Mary Jo – A Churn Full of Judies

Muriel made this Trip Around The World wall hanging using Eleanor Burns strip piecing technique. Muriel works and teaches at Little Quilts, and taught this technique to the Homestead Gathering Club at the store.

Nancy made these star blocks and quarter square alternate blocks and framed one side with strips of the anniversary collection. A neat wall hanging….it also looks like an antique quilt!

Rise had never entered a contest before, and had fun making the quilt. She’s one of our auto-ship customers. Rise used Judie’s border stripe for sashing and also the border. Love the white stars don’t you?

 

Risa – Rogue Blocks

Sarah combined English paper piecing with a nice border fabric for the stripes in her quilt. It’s hard to see but it’s beautifully machine quilted.

Nicole names hers “Scrappy Stars” for this nice looking wall hanging.

The next quilt was made by Mary Ellen. She did 3”, 6” and 9” Lemoyne Stars using Deb Tucker’s Lemoyne Star ruler, and combined lots of Judie’s background fabrics for this 50” wall hanging. You may have read her saga in past blogs as she was making this quilt while on a trip without her cutting mat, square rulers, and some of her supplies.

Wanda teaches at Little Quilts, and made this quil with many dimensional flowers. It’s a beautiful tribute to Judie.  Wait until you see hers in person.

Allison’s quilt did not get finished in time to enter the contest but we wanted to share it with you. She’s using ½” hexagon papers and the center was 40”. Then Allison decided to add the alphabet around the outside. Here’s her progress so far. It will be beautiful and it’s all Judie’s fabrics! 

Nancy loves log cabins and these were done crazy patch style as in Gwen Marston’s quilts. Nancy loved the yellow fabric from the Party of Twelve line, and used it to make her blocks float. The gals in the reproduction study group named Nancy’s quilt.  Don’t you just love her title?

I hope you have enjoyed this quilt tribute to Judie Rothermel.  She has been a "rock star" in quilt design to preserve the past into the future.  She has designed fabrics in the 30's style that are not even the focus here, that have kept lovers of 30's feedsack style quilts stocked up with options for fabrics and quilt patterns for many years.  Judie, Judie, Judie... we can't wait for your visit to Little Quilts. It is a great match-up.
