What's New at Little Quilts

When you come into Little Quilts, be sure to see the sweetest example of hand embroidery that is behind the register (see below): Aunt Bea's Parlor. The sample is here from the designer, Judy Reynolds; pattern available at $15. The quilt measures 47x56" and has twenty 6" blocks; each block is a different basket design, each in multi-colored hand embroidery - so pretty and nostalgic.


Little Quilts has another sample from the book Better by the Dozen, by Susan Teegarden Dissmore ($24.95). Twelve blocks, twelve quilts, endless possibilities. Follow a block of the month format to make these gorgeous quilts at a pace that suits your schedule. There are interchangeable block frames as well. Batik & Black Stretched Stars

Stop in and pick up the guidelines for this next Block Swapper Exchange. It's with Batiks and a Black fabric from RJR called "Hand Spray"that looks like a black batik. Participants will make 20 small 4" blocks with one batik and the black Hand Spray. Return them by the 1st of the month. They'll get swapped with others and you'll get 20 different ones when you pick them up. Stop in and see the sample - there will be lots of layout options for this set of exchange blocks, too!

Primitive Gathering Club

Sign up at Little Quilts (and see further details on the website or call or come in) for either the Old Wooden Hare (March 26th) or the Scrappy Pineapples Class (April 30th) at 2pm - 4pm or 6:30pm - 8:30pm. Or both! You will have so much fun, learn a lot, and get together with fellow primitive lovers.

Little Quilts' Blockswappers: How to Set Those Blocks

Participants just completed the last exchange for the Reproduction Nine Patch Block Swap at Little Quilts. We've put together different layouts (above and see actual quilts below) using some or all of the blocks. Sizes range from throw size to full size quilts. Patterns could be suggested layouts for any 6" block. Patterns are $2 each.


Reproduction Nine Patch 85" x 85" - made by Kathie West. Kathie used her 72 blocks from the Block Swapper Exchange and made a few more to complete the quilt.

Nine Patch Strippy. Mary Ellen made this strippy 66" x 80" and used only 32 of the Nine Patch Blocks from The Reproduction Nine Patch Block Swap. She's planning to make the Nine Patch with Hour Glass Blocks with the remaining 30 Nine Patch Blocks. That quilt will be 72" x 84". Layout pattern (see above) available at Little Quilts.

Jo Morton Little Women Club

These are the Jo Morton Club quilts from the March meeting. We took a diversion from the club patterns and made another Jo pattern we desired to make. Ideally something larger. How inspiring!

Greater Atlanta Quilt Shop Hop

Time for the 2008 Greater Atlanta Quilt Shop Hop! Stars Over Savannah - our 47” x 59” quilt made with the blocks for the 13 participating shops in the Greater Atlanta Shop Hop 2008. The theme for the year is “Cruising into Spring”. Little Quilts is the Port of Savannah. Kit ($64.95) contains fabrics for the backgrounds in assorted blue sky, cloud, and bird fabrics, plus fabrics in reds, golds, blues, greens and browns for stars, and other blocks. The parrot sits on his perch watching the “Stars over Savannah”. ½ yd binding and 3 yds. backing not included. Pattern for our setting is included. Patterns for 13 blocks sold separately will be available after March 5th.
We selected a Friendship Star block, renamed it “Savannah Star” to commemorate the Port of Savannah for the Greater Atlanta Quilt Shop Hop 2008, and combined it with assorted golds, reds, and blues for a lap size quilt 50” x 59”, $66.95. Add colors from your stash to make it larger if desired. Kit includes all fabrics plus binding. 3½ yds backing not included. This easy patchwork block can be made with traditional rotary cutting and piecing, 3” Thangles©, or the Nifty Notions half square ruler.

"Cruise" to all 13 ports of call and get your passport stamped at each one. You will be eligible for a $100 gift certificate to each shop or a Janome Sewing machine and attachments. Fun awaits you as you enter different cruisin' ports of call. Little Quilts will take you to Savannah with lighthouses, sailing ships and a pirate or two.

Martha Washington Visits Little Quilts

We are so excited about the 'Voices of the Past' series from Patchwork Society from Kaye England. This series features Women in History. Our first meeting was on February 22nd with Martha Washington. Due to popular demand she'll be back on Thursday evening, February 28th. There are a few spaces - check the website or call the shop if you want to sign up.

The blocks you see above are the alternate colorways that are offered this year for the block: patriotic, batik, and Kaffe Meets Feedsack.

If you are doing the monthly Nutcracker applique patterns (mentioned in previous post), don't forget your teeth! Teeth kit above is available and will be enough for all of your little Nutcracker's teeth for the year.

Little Quilts' Applique Block of the Month Begins: Nutcracker!

Little Quilts begins a Classic Nutcracker Applique Block of the Month pattern this very month; the first month's kit and pattern are available Saturday, February 9th, at Second Saturday Sampler. Our own Kathie West's sample above is on view in the shop. Patterns are $5.00 each and include a history about that particular Nutcracker and a recipe. The kit comes with the background, applique fabric, and pattern $10.00. There is an embellishment kit available for $10.95 that includes gold and silver floss, gold and black beads, a watch, coin, and key buttons. Our Nutcrackers have teeth cleverly made from a piano keyboard fabric. This fabric is 1/3 yd. at $3.50 and will make all your "teeth". The coordinating patchwork block pattern, see above, is $1.00.
