Sudoku and quilting..Who knew?

Play Sudoku with your quilt blocks like Madelyn did and come up with a great lap quilt.  Nine patches with colors that symbolize numbers.  The pattern is from a book called Sudoku Quilts by Barbara Hershey.

Former staff member, Nancy, was in town for the week-end and stopped by to pick out the perfect backing fabric for this quilt she appliquéd and pieced from a pattern by Terri Clothier Thompson. What a great quilt!

June Second Saturday Sampler Show and Tell

I wonder what goodies there were this Saturday at the Show and Tell.  I didn't get there but I will post the show and tell soon.

Tina finished her six inch blocks for the 2011 Sat. Sampler. Love these little blocks.

Susan calls this quilt “ Reverse Square”. Nice job, Susan.

Nicole was super busy this month. She brought in three quilts to show.

“Raegan’s Quilt” which is the Ohio Star block repeated set block to block. Someone will be happy to own this one.  “Blakes Quilt” is a scrappy Log Cabin that Mary Ellen tried to claim for her grandson.   “Ladybug Picnic” is for Sarah. It is a split 9-Patch with freehand appliqué lady bugs. How cute is this. I’m sure Sarah will love it.

Jenny took the Professional Tote class with Jackie and made this great bag. Wish you could all see it. We fell in love with it.

More Second Saturday Sampler Show and Tell

Sandy has the first row of a star quilt she’s making for her grandson finished. He’s going into the Marines just as soon as high school graduation is over.

Michele made this Minkie Row Quilt for her daughter. It was a quilt as you go project and features Minkie on both the front and the back – so cuddly!

Block of the Month 2010 - blast from the past

Joan brought her finished “12 Days of Christmas” quilt in for us to see and it is stunning. This quilt was our Applique Block of the Month last year from patterns designed by our store manager, Wanda.

Faux Leather Fabric Creativity

Nancy's monogrammed our 'faux leather' and made this nifty e-book cover. Looks great and protects your Kindle or Nook.  We have some of this unbelievably interesting faux leather fabrics available, including a stunning kit for a tote bag using the Atkinson Designs pattern Zippy Strippy.

Marshall brought in another beautiful top that he just finished. He used up scraps of 72 different batiks to achieve this rainbow of colors. Eye candy!

Exquisite Original Quilt designs - in progress

The current challenge for the Reproduction Study Group Class at Little Quilts is to add on to an originally designed medallion quilt each month.  Here are some quilts in progress.

2011 Second Saturday Sampler Results

Julie and Madelyn both finished their 2^nd Sat. Sampler quilts from 2011. They both came up with their own setting ideas for their quilts and this is a good example of how versatile and unique sampler blocks quilts can be. You have to look at these quilts very closely to recognize they both used the same blocks! 

Block Swap Results

Carol Ann was finally able to use her Bow Tie blocks from the Bow Tie Block exchange we did several years ago when she found the perfect border fabric in our sale section! So cute!

Baskets of Hope - keep on sewing

Bonita brought in lots of basket blocks for the Baskets of Hope campaign which began during Shop Hop. Each of her blocks serve as an entry in the drawing for the Janome Sewing Machine and Sew Steady Table. Bonita brought brightly colored baskets to use in quilts for children’s charities, but you can also make red/white/blue baskets for Wounded Warriors, or pink baskets for breast cancer research charities. It’s not too late to enter – all entries must be in by June 30 and each block you turn in counts as an entry. Each shop in the Shop Hop will be sponsoring sewing days during the summer to turn all the blocks into quilts, so check our newsletter to find the dates we’ll be sewing here at Little Quilts. Winner of the grand prize will be announced in August. Working together we CAN make a difference!

Quilter's can Knit and Knitters can Quilt

After eight years of working on it, Debbie has finished her Noah’s Ark quilt. Finished is so good! Some of you may recognize Debbie from The Whole Nine Yarns knit shop in Woodstock. You may also recognize the Noah’s Ark pattern as it is one of the Little Quilts booklets which, by the way, is on currently on sale!

Sharon belongs to our Elisabeth's embroidery club and shared a sample she's working on in her crazy quilt. Elisabeth's a great teacher. If you love handwork this is the place for you.  This little design is only 3" square! Amazing!

Wool Wonders

All these ladies finished these quilts in a wool applique class taught by Fran House. Gorgeous!

Stunner!

Stephanie brought her mother’s finished Florence Peto Posey Quilt and we loved it! The appliqués were all broderie perse set with tiny nine-patch alternate blocks. Love the way the quilt was bound.

Look what you can make with a little bunch of scraps and a lot of time

We’ve watched the progress on this quilt for several months and were thrilled when Jeanette brought in the finished quilt! The pattern is from one of Kim Diehl’s books and involves making A LOT of yo-yos. The border evolved when Jeanette didn’t have enough of the fabric she wanted to use so she came up with this idea to “make do” with what she had. Very creative!

Muriel looks like she just came in from a dude ranch!  Actually she has been roping steer  (not!)in the parking lot during Shop Hop (we were a rodea themed store)

Proud Primitive Show and Tell

Susan, who LOVES primitives, is new to the area coming from Louisiana and we were thrilled to see her newly finished quilt top. She used the Blackberry Primitives pattern by Maggie Bonanomi for this wool appliqué masterpiece. Antique buttons make the quilt even more special!

Applique teacher, Anne Anderberg, finished this darling quilt for her new great-grandson. Pattern for this will be available soon!

Anne used a lot of Stonehenge fabric to get the realistic look for her animals.

Spring Quilt Market

New pillow designs from Aunt Philly's  Toothbrush Rugs.

They were excited to find the quilt designed by our friend, Karen Mowery with blocks sewn by several Little Quilts' staff members.  Her design is published in a book pulished by Kansas City Star Books.

Gorgeous Photography

Two of Marshall’s quilts were the subject of Myrtie Cope’s photography. Beautiful quilts and gorgeous photography. Wouldn’t this make a beautiful book?

Myrtie’s sister came into the shop looking for help with a quilt for her twin grand-daughters. We think the girls will be snug as bugs in this quilt! So cute!

Hearts Quilt

Charlotte is on her way back to New York, but stopped by to learn how to put a scalloped edge on her quilt. She did a great job with her first scalloped edge project and the scallops are perfect with her beautiful heart appliqué blocks.

Everything Old is New Again

One of our customers, Roylyn brought in a very unique quilt top. It came from Boston and the photography was transferred to the fabric around 1910!   

Rug Braiding Excellence

Several weeks ago we showed you this Braided Snowgirl, an original project Ann did for a challenge at the Valley Forge Rug Braiding Guild Braid-In. The challenge was to braid something with a weather theme. We’re happy to report that Anne won First Place at the Braid-In! We were certain that such creativity would not go unrewarded! There are five basic rug braiding techniques and Snowgirl showcases all five techniques which made it a favorite with the judges. Way to go, Ann!
