Graduation present - One of a Kind

Graduation time always brings a lot of interesting show & tell into the shop. One of our customers made a rug-hooked emblem for this special pillow. All you Georgia bulldog fans are going to want one of these, I know!

Beginner and Beyond!!

Susan took our “Beyond Beginner” class and finished this beauty with lots of batiks and Aboriginal fabrics. She’s been working diligently at Wednesday Workshop to piece the leftovers from the top into a just as beautiful backing! She plans to give the quilt to her son.

Heximania Update

Remember this?  Our customer was working on it during Shop Hop. It's 1/4" hexies that will be a queen size quilt. The block on bottom right are part of her quilt for the 'Just Judie' contest. Have you started yours?

Here Kitty Kitty

Dona's been finishing some quilts. "Quilting by check" is the term. She's using our machine quilting service stop get these UFQ's (unfinished quilts) off the shelf and onto beds!

Dona's favorite! She loved the meandering quilting done to look like yarn that her kitties have been playing with! A tribute to all her cats.

"Parking Lot" Show and Tell from May Second Saturday Sampler Event

Use a charm pack and a great pattern to make this easy quilt top. Sew squares together in a horizontal set, and then use the “Chock Full of Charms” pattern to show you how to cut the top apart and restitch it to give you an on-point look. Doesn’t get any easier!

  Sandi used an early Jan Patek/Sue Spargo pattern for this gorgeous quilt. Since she doesn’t care to appliqué, she replaced some of the appliqué blocks in the pattern with paper-pieced blocks to add her own personal touch to the quilt. We think Jan and Sue  would love it!

Big blocks for big prints

Kelly  made a sports theme quilt for her nephew who's turning 7. We'll quilt it for them with variegated thread!

She collects fabric with fruits and veggies and makes picnic quilts with large blocks for wedding quilts for friends....a great idea.

Classes bring out the fun and creativity in you

The girls in the Homestead Gathering Club are having so much fun with doll quilts and cigar box doll beds. Karen wanted something unique for the legs on her doll bed and decided to use tea cups from her granddaughter’s tea set. Isn’t that the cutest idea?!

Marshall has been quilting up a storm! Always a finished new project when he stops by. This week he had two beautiful tops to show us.

 

Show and Tell - Batiks

One of our customers loves working with batiks because the colors always seem to blend well. She used the “Disappearing Nine-Patch” technique on one of the quilts. The other quilt is for her daughter.

 

Show and Tell - Awesome

One of our out-of-state customers stopped by while she was in Atlanta to show us her finished Sweet 16 quilt. Many of you will remember that Sweet 16, designed by Edyta Sitar of Laundry Basket Quilts, was our appliqué block of the month last year. Mary did all the appliqué on her blocks, but had the quilt hand quilted by an Amish lady near her home. Beautiful!

Textile Memories

One of our customers wanted a teddy bear made from her mother's favorite sweater after her mother passed away. We think Wanda did a great job making this special treasure for her!

Wool Works is one of our most popular clubs with lots of time to stitch, chat, and be inspired. The club meets the 2^nd Friday of each month from 10 – 12:30. There’s no charge for the club – just bring whatever wool project you’re working on and join the fun. Call the shop to reserve your spot!

 

Happiness is a Thumb and a Blanket

Mary Alice made this 55" x 60" quilt with the Peanuts user friendly panel with patchwork around it. A great use of the chevron. She had such a grand time that she made the next one 94" x 104". Would you believe these are for her daughter who's 40+ years old. She grew up with Charlie Brown and all the Peanuts gang!

Accuquilt Block Contest

Alex Anderson & Ricky Tims get ready to announce winner of barn quilt contest. The Accuquilt booth is right next to Mary Ellen and the Little Quilts booth in Paducah, Ky. What fun!
The contest was for quilters to enter a block design and the winner gets their block design painted on 6 ft square to hang at Accuquilt's headquarters in Nebraska.

Only in Paducah at the American Quilters Society show...Mary Ellen spots "Lady Patchwork" on the square!

If that is not enough... We have Quiltman and Bobbin.

Art Gallery fabrics

Enjoy this quilt made from a pattern in the "Turning Twenty  Again" book made with beautiful art gallery fabrics. We love the results you get from simple designs in the Turning Twenty line of books by Tricia Cribbs.  Amanda coordinated beautiful bundles of 20 fat 1/4ths.

It's a fast technique - she bought the fabrics last Saturday!

SHUT MY MOUTH!!!

Nikki is one of our auto ship customers who is participating in the Fussy Cut Club. She has 106 of her hexies done. They were amazing.  You have to see the TINY hand stitches connecting the blocks.  Unbelieveable.  and guess what?  It is Rocke Science!  That is what Nikki is trained to do for her career.

Cinnamon Stick results

Debbie finished a great quilt top using an Edyta Sitar (from Laundry Basket Quilts) pattern and blocks she received from the Cinnamon Stick exchange we did last year. Fabulous! Just to let you all in on a little secret – Edyta is coming to Marietta in June when she will be the guest lecturer at the East Cobb Quilt Guild. She will also be doing workshops for the guild. Trisha started her box of chocolates quilt from "Skip the Borders " book - our trunk show. Great patterns in the book.

How Original

Annie is making this flag with repurposed denim jeans and red wools from Little Quilts. Embellished with painted star and wool yarn. Only all natural fibers are used. She even mounted it on a piece of gold wool! Stunning...a great idea!

stitchery "Celebrity" sighting

Kathy Schmitz stopped in Little Quilts Monday while visiting in Georgia. She loved seeing her Trunk Show prominently displayed. Her stitchery designs are always popular. Mary Ellen will see her again in May in Portland – her hometown - during the Spring Quilt Market.  Can't wait.

Applique Awesome

Betts from Virginia Beach stopped by and brought her quilt made from the Circuit Rider book. She was looking for a backing. It is all done with invisible machine appliqué. The quilt is 82” x 98”. She has been doing donation quilts for her church for two years. This is her last year so she is donating this quilt as her last one. It was spectacular!

She teaches at the Stitch and Stuff quilt shop in that area. She also brought in this wall hanging made from Edyta Sitar's pattern from her book “Hop To It”.

Better than the lottery!

Staff member, Kathy, presented Kay with our Shop Hop gift basket filled with fabric, patterns, hexagons, and chocolate! Winners of the grand prizes  are posted on the Shop Hop blog.

 

 

 

Winner, Winner....

During the shop hop we had a demo on making hexies. If you made a hexie during the demo you were eligible to win all of them after the event. Kathleen was the happy recipient of the entire bag of hexies and was really excited. We’ll all have to wait and see what she makes.

 

Good Things Come in Small Packages

Allison was here during to Shop Hop to demo making ¼” hexagons. We’ve been following her progress on the blog and love the way her quilt is turning out. She plans on making it queen-size so she’s still got a ways to go!
