End of 2013 Second Saturday Sampler..looking forward to 2014 ...starts next month...

This weekend at Second Saturday Sampler was the big unveiling of the finished quilt and all the alternate block quilts. We think you’re going to love them!
Wanda included both the 10” and 5” blocks in her quilt. She used setting and border fabrics from the “Pheasant Run” fabric line designed by Little Quilts.

Janice designed the red/tan quilt and used paper piecing to make all the flying geese.

Jackie made the contemporary quilt using a bright and bold border fabric by Kaffe Fassett.

Muriel designed the black and white quilt. She stitched the label to the backing fabric before sending it off to the quilter so the label is now permanently affixed to the back of the quilt.

Do I hear applause?!

Simple Times...

A blast from the past…Carolyn made “Simple Times” one of Little Quilts early and favorite wall hanging. She was recovering from a broken leg and spent lots of time working on the hand piecing of the blocks as she rested. Her stitching helped her through this hard time. She said it’s amazing what you can get done when you can’t ‘go running around’! This quilt is always a favorite…a great stash buster too.

Let the fabric talk...

Amanda made this chenille throw rug for her daughter by layering 4 layers and a backing of this wonderful aboriginal fabric, drawing a diagonal line ¾” apart, sewing on the lines and then cutting through 3 of the layers. She washed it a few times and tumble dried it with a few towels and tennis balls. A great rug!

Loving the Neutrals!

One of our out-of-town customers bought all the fabric to make this gorgeous Trip Around the World quilt during her last visit. She and her 85 year old mother, Clara, worked together on the quilt – Diane cut and Clara sewed – to make the quilt for their church raffle. It’s a queen sized quilt with over 2,000 tiny squares! SCORE on the  outer border! Such a great match.

Embroidery Ornaments

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...the elves are busy working away. Marshall shared his latest work on his new embroidery machine. These are meant to be coasters...we suggested they are better as ornaments and gift tags for that special someone. No coffee mug would sit on mine!

Another Second Saturday Sampler Show and Tell

Marvis is finishing this quilt for her daughter for Christmas. She used blocks from the 2011 Second Saturday Sampler and added a few heart blocks to make the quilt extra-special. Her daughter has seen the blocks in progress, but has no idea the quilt is for her – what a great surprise gift!

Infuse "you" into an existing pattern.

Amy, one of our new wool stitchers, loves to work in contemporary bright colors in both fabric and wool. She did her version of Sue Spargo's Winterberry Table Runner pattern. She used wool, silver and gold lame, as well as Kaffee Fassett and other bright fabrics. She plans to do 'big stitch' for her quilting of her contemporary versions of this traditional design. We love it. The pattern is back in stock with plenty of time to make it for your holiday table!

One Good Deed....

Quilters do great things! Fran, one of our teachers made this quilt for an event at her golf course. It was a fund raiser for the American Cancer Society and this quilt was auctioned off for $600. Quilts are always good to make and donate for a fund raiser at your schools or churches.

Primitive Quilts and Projects Magazine recently did a poll of readers to see how many did charitable projects.  Here is a list of some of their charities and projects that their readers sew for.

Here's a list of charities you said you donate your time, talent and work. Most Popular were:
American Cancer Society
Breast Cancer
Hospice
Local charities, nursing homes, hospitals and churches
