During the shop hop we had a demo on making hexies. If you made a hexie during the demo you were eligible to win all of them after the event. Kathleen was the happy recipient of the entire bag of hexies and was really excited. We’ll all have to wait and see what she makes.

 

Good Things Come in Small Packages

Allison was here during to Shop Hop to demo making ¼” hexagons. We’ve been following her progress on the blog and love the way her quilt is turning out. She plans on making it queen-size so she’s still got a ways to go!

If you didn't have the opportunity to participate in the 2013 Shop Hop or maybe you weren't able to visit every shop, we wanted to share each shop's project with everyone. If you recall the earlier post about the new strip program we introduced this year (read it here if you missed it), each of the shops combined the strip sets from all ten shops into their individual projects. I'm really glad I don't have to pick a favorite (although I might be a little biased!) because each one turned out beautifully!

Two Hours left to Shop Hop 2013

Wow! What great weather for our travelers and what fun it has been.  More stats to follow but there have been over 800 folks through Little Quilts this weekend by a rough count.  This mother/daughter duo knows how to do things right.

Suzanne and her mom Kathy finished this year's shop hop. In fact they've 'hopped' at all the hops for the past 14 years! They record the date and the miles driven each year on this tote bag, from year one. What a great memory !

 

 

 

Dena finished her Baltimore album blocks she's been working on for years! It's personalized with her own home which she drafted the blocks. Next is a close up of her house block. She'll be putting it on her quilting frame at home. She's a beautiful hand quilter with teeny tiny stitches plus also machine quilts on her Gammill.

Welcome to Greater Atlanta Shop Hop

It may be cold outside for the first day of The Greater Atlanta Quilt Shop Hop, but it looks like Spring at Little Quilts. The theme for this year’s Shop Hop is “Quilting…It’s Our Passion,” and we’re passionate about “Hexies and Handwork!” If you examine the flowers growing in our planter, you’ll discover some of them are made of fabulous fabric and large hexagon shapes. Step inside for a warm welcome and many unique hexagon and handwork ideas. You’ll soon be addicted to hexies and handwork just like us!

Greater Atlanta Quilt Shop Hop 2013

Shop Hop starts today, March 14 – 17, and we know you’re not going to want to miss it! 

 The theme this year is “Quilting…It’s Our Passion” and here at Little Quilts we’re passionate about Hexies and Handwork. Our Shop Hop quilt made from the strip sets you can get from each shop just oozes spring with all the bright flowers made from hexagons, ric-rac, and other handwork techniques. When we finished the quilt we had a few strips left over so we added some strips from a Kaffe Fassett flowery fabric and made a jelly roll race! Get the pattern for both quilts when you visit us during the Shop Hop or get a free download on our website.

The Shop Hop fabric this year is so cute with all those sewing implements. We’ve found a lot of fun ways to use the fabric including tote bags, little sewing pouches, even a caddy for carrying your iron to quilting classes or retreats!

 

 

 Mary's great quilt - shown in Reproduction Study Group.  She plans to quilt with 'big stitch' - perfect for that style of quilt. Love those primitives!  See the cat hiding in the corner?

Janet brought in this beautiful Belgian Lace mantilla that her sister-in-law purchased when she was 16 years old in Italy. She thought she'd have it for her wedding veil. Janet's sister-in-law used it 40 years ago, then her three daughter's used it and now Janet's daughter will wear it in July for her wedding. What a wonderful treasure. Janet is making a pocketbook type envelope to put it in when she returns it to her sister-in-law who stored it in plastic!

Janie also used our setting and our finishing fabrics but added a gold inner border to give her quilt a different look. It’s amazing to see what these ladies do with their blocks. Most are looking forward to this year’s project.

Never Too Late to turn a UFO into a quilt!

Would you believe, Joy , on the left, just stopped in to show us her Saturday Sampler quilt from more than 5 years ago.  Libby, on the right, happened to be in the store getting binding for a quilt, when Joy came in. Libby used to design our Saturday Sampler quilts. Joy scalloped the edges in Muriel’s class, and did beautiful hand quilting….it’s stunning!

Ellie is our youngest to ever participate in the Saturday Sampler. With the help of her grandmother she used the 12 inch blocks and our setting and finishing fabrics. What a fantastic job she did and she was so proud. So were we all.

Amy has twenty blocks in her Saturday Sampler quilt. Look closely at the variable star blocks and you will see her six inch blocks in the centers. Very creative!

PREPARE TO BE AMAZED: Show and Tell Finale of Second Saturday Sampler 2012

Debbie finished her 12” blocks with the Garden Maze setting and everyone loved it.

Jane made the 6 inch blocks and used a star setting and gave them a patriotic flare. Very nice, Jane!

 

Carol Ann did a fabulous job using Dena’s contemporary setting in our favorite pink and brown colors.

 

Nicole out did us all. She finished three tops using the 12 inch blocks. Her traditional block was set with a setting called General’s Daughter ( a star in a star ) setting with a what is termed a piano keys border. The black and tan sure makes a striking quilt! She was inspired by something she saw on the internet.

Nicole’s second quilt also used the 12 inch block. I believe the green polka dot fabric was a fabric she was given for a challenge and she had to use it in every block. This one has a flying geese border.

 

Nicole’s third quilt was also made using a different challenge fabric which was a Monet fabric and was also used in every block. Our hats are off to Nicole for a job well done!

Joan wanted a larger quilt so she set her 12 inch blocks on point. This is always a great and easy way to attain a much larger quilt. Her blue sashing is set off with a gold star which she made using the V Block ruler by Studio 180 Designs. Studio 180 Designs have great rulers as well as great laminated instruction sheets for the many ways to use them. Joan loved the technique and her quilt is lovely.

Sharon’s quilt was sashed with a pink and green fabric. Her pattern for the sashing gave the illusion of a smaller square in a square block for the corner stones. Very creative Sharon!

 

Chris used a brown and blue argyle print to sash her alternate 12 inch blocks. I believe Chris was in the group that had to use a particular fabric as a challenge. It worked!

Jeanette used her challenge fabric which was a fruit print in every alternate block. She chose a burgundy fabric for her setting.

Marliss made the 12 inch traditional blocks and finished with a blue and brown setting fabric. Her setting was inspired by something on the internet. Each block was sashed in the same manner and then she simply rotated them to get the effect she was looking for.

This one you need to see up close and personal! Nancy made her blocks a mere 3 inches finished, yes my friends 3 inches. In the picture they look much larger but they are indeed tiny. She finished her quilt using Dena’s contemporary setting which also had to be scaled down. A magnificent job, Nancy!
