Gorgeous Photography

Two of Marshall’s quilts were the subject of Myrtie Cope’s photography. Beautiful quilts and gorgeous photography. Wouldn’t this make a beautiful book?

Myrtie’s sister came into the shop looking for help with a quilt for her twin grand-daughters. We think the girls will be snug as bugs in this quilt! So cute!

Hearts Quilt

Charlotte is on her way back to New York, but stopped by to learn how to put a scalloped edge on her quilt. She did a great job with her first scalloped edge project and the scallops are perfect with her beautiful heart appliqué blocks.

Everything Old is New Again

One of our customers, Roylyn brought in a very unique quilt top. It came from Boston and the photography was transferred to the fabric around 1910!

Rug Braiding Excellence

Several weeks ago we showed you this Braided Snowgirl, an original project Ann did for a challenge at the Valley Forge Rug Braiding Guild Braid-In. The challenge was to braid something with a weather theme. We’re happy to report that Anne won First Place at the Braid-In! We were certain that such creativity would not go unrewarded! There are five basic rug braiding techniques and Snowgirl showcases all five techniques which made it a favorite with the judges. Way to go, Ann!

Magic creativity from the "A Day With Marty" class

Barbara turned her projects from the March “A Day With Marty” class into this fun pillow and mini picture. Barbara just applied binding to the outer edge of the pillow and it looks just like piping!  Look for your chance to express yourself, coming in the Fall class schedule.

ALERT: Correction to the Second Saturday Sampler block kit

Oops! We’ve made our first Second Saturday Sampler cutting error. If you picked up your kit this morning (Sat., April 14), you will find you do not have enough of the black fabric (shown) to cut your 3” blocks. Just stop by the shop and pick up additional fabric or, if you live a distance, call us and we’ll mail you what you need. So sorry for any inconvenience!

Part Two: Second Saturday Sampler Show and Tell - March

More great quilts from 2nd Saturday Sampler Show and Tell.  You don't have to miss out.  Come to LQ tomorrow Saturday 4/14 betwen 9:30 and 11, to the back of the store to the classroom, and you too can participate.

Part One: March Second Saturday Sampler Show and Tell

Several ladies made extra of this month’s Jacob’s Ladder block and already have them sewn into tops! This was a great block for an all-over pattern.
Amie is setting her blocks as she goes. She took her 6” block and set it into a star block. By the end of the year, her blocks will be all ready to stitch together.

LQ has fantastic classes with fantastic results

Mary finished this beautiful Mariner’s Compass block in the Star Struck class. Janice Kuhns was the special guest teacher for the class in March and even though most of the class had very little experience with paper piecing, everybody got stunning results.

Leap To It

Julie was the first of our Leap Day participants to bring in her finished mystery quilt and it is so bright and cheery – perfect for her beach house! Mystery quilts are a lot of fun because you come to the class not knowing what the quilt pattern will be (be brave!). Choosing your fabrics can be a challenge, but as long as you have definite contrast between all your fabrics, anything will work.  You can see a trunk show of  quilts from the class now.

New, Different and SO Cute

Isn’t this just the cutest snowman? Anne is attending a Braid-In (like a quilt retreat for rug braiders) the end of April and everyone was challenged to make something with a weather theme. If there’s a prize, we think Anne is sure to win! Anne says her “snow braider" is getting ready for Spring, but she better hurry up and finish her rug!  There are five different styles of rug braiding and so far this project shows four of them. Anne plans to make a pocketbook for the snowlady to carry which will showcase the fifth type of braiding, a square braid.

Colorful Gift Quilt

Linda just finished this for her grand-daughter who is just 2½ years old. Linda wanted to give her a quilt she could grow into and we think this is perfect!

Hip To Be Square

Jeanette brought in a quilt top made by her grandmother that she is having us quilt. The little 1” squares were all hand-pieced and we found several of the tiny squares that were pieced together indicating the quilt maker was “making do” and not wasting any of the fabric she had. Jeanette is fairly certain the top was pieced in the 30’s, but some of the fabrics are older so her grandmother was definitely using her stash - now there’s a novel idea! What a treasure. Unlike many of the old quilts we see, this quilt top did not smell musty or dirty. In fact, it smelled so good we thought Jeanette must have freshly laundered it before she brought it in, but Jeanette said she has never washed it. Her secret? She wraps small bars of scented soaps in with her old tops (we recommend wrapping them in muslin so the soap does not come into direct contact with the quilt tops)!

Grand Finale of the Sweet Sixteen Quilt

This is what you have to look forward to if you’ve been doing our Sweet Sixteen Applique Block of the Month this year. Kathy has been doing a fabulous job on the blocks each month and this is her completed quilt top. Light, airy, and just plain beautiful!

One more day and then it is ...THE GREATER ATLANTA SHOP HOP!!  Whoot Whoot.  The store is PACKED with trunk show sand goodies.  Total Eye Candy and yes, I mean quilts.  There may be a cowboy or two, (wink).  After all, we are the rodeo.

Happy National Quilting Day

One of the coolest things about quilting......is seeing the same pattern and how different it cann look in different colorways and settings.
Just a few of the great quilts we saw  at the 2011 2nd Saturday Sampler party. As usual, many of you came up with your own setting ideas and we loved all the creativity.

Why You Should Come to Second Saturday Sampler - It is happenin' today!

We were really impressed with Susan’s original setting design for her 2nd Saturday Sampler blocks. She used her own fabrics for the blocks, made a few extra blocks (32 total), framed each block, and then used a beautiful William Morris fabric for the sashings and setting triangles. She was in for more fabric for a beautiful pieced outer border she has planned which will make this a king-size quilt when she’s finished. Love the elegant look she achieved with her fabric choices!

Designer and Quilt Shop Owner(s)

We were so thrilled when Lisa and Nick Bongean of Primitive Gatherings showed up in the shop! Nick was a little camera shy, but we got a great picture of Lisa, Mary Ellen and Wanda. Primitive Gatherings has a booth at the Sewing Expo and we were glad they had a few minutes to stop by for a visit.

Heart Stringsd - A pattern Favorite - Great Quilts

Julie and Melanie both brought in “Heart Strings” quilt tops this week. Melanie’s son who is serving in Afghanistan just got engaged on Valentine’s Day and this quilt is going to Melanie’s future daughter-in-law. Julie used the same pattern but added sashing between the hearts and was looking for border fabric to make it queen-bed size. Love this pattern.

When owning a longarm comes in handy

Dena made the Civil War Journal BOM here each month last year but ‘tested the pattern’ each month before sewing with the kit fabric. She had this contemporary version out of a line called “London Lawn” from Moda.
She’ll have 2 king size quilts.   Way to go Dena.

New Sewer Impress

This is Angie’s second quilt top and she was looking for border fabrics. We think she’s off to a very good start in her quilting career.
