Sylvia has taken up knitting!  She said this blanket takes 15 skeins of wool.  Wow!

Kathy went to work fulltime and her students made quilt blocks to wish her goodbye.  At our party, they turned up in a finished quilt!! Big stitched by Barbara.

Are you ready?!!  This is a two part-er.  I will first post the part of our holiday party that was a show and tell of the group's current projects.  Ever wonder what we are making in our "free time"?  Here you go.
This project is a sampler quilt with blocks made for Libby using blues and blue themed shirtings.

This quilt is a Libby design original using the Deb Tucker Rapid Fire Hunter's Star ruler to make eight pointed stars.  It is so well pieced the stars look like a pre-print panel!

    Mary made this quilt with her stitching group and decided she didn’t like it! When Cindy fell in love with it, Mary gave it to her. The quilt is beautifully custom quilted. 

 

Show and Tell from November Second Saturday Sampler

We love the “Chill Chaser” pattern for those great fabrics you just can’t make yourself cut up. The focus fabric is surrounded by Nine-Patch blocks and a small inner border and the quilt is finished. So fast and easy, you’ll use the pattern over and over again.

Fairy Sampler

If there’s fairy fabric in the shop, Doris will find it! This is her newest creation .

Adapt any pattern and make it a custom made quilt.

Staff member Linda Rice used the “Remember Who Loves You” pattern and replaced the owl with a monkey to go along with the fabric she put on the back of the quilt. The quilt was a gift for her great great nephew. SUPER cute!

October Second Saturday Sampler Show and Tell pt 2

When she was traveling, Julie bought this beautiful center panel from a quilt shop she stopped at. She added two simple borders and “Voila!” A work of art!

 

 Nancy has been working on this original medallion quilt for a Reproduction Study Group challenge. We love her creative use of fabric and her beautiful borders. Reproduction Study Group is an on-going club at Little Quilts and it’s never too late to join. There are always new and different projects to challenge you!

 

Show and Tell from October Second Saturday Sampler pt 1

 Susan made this beauty in black and white – when she ran out of fabric she got creative with the final blocks. If you look closely you can see the pattern is slightly different in the bottom left corner. It’s what gives the quilt that little extra spark.

 

A simple pattern and a beautiful palette are all you need to make a great quilt sing.

 

 

 

Memories in fabric

After her brother-in-law died, one of our customers made this beautiful table topper for her sister from his neck ties. The 13” table topper is from the “Folded Circle Centrepiece” pattern by DJ Richards Design. What a great memory project!

Marshall finished these three quilts just in time for his “one man show” at The Garden Keeper Garden Shop.  Now That's a lot of sewing!

 

Adapt Quilt Patterns to Your Liking....

Madeline used the “French Silk” pattern from the book “Spotlight On Neutrals” by Pat Wys. The pattern in the book used only neutral fabrics, but isn’t it pretty with some color thrown in?!

Day 1: Very Merry Holiday Hop from Henry Glass Fabrics

What fun to be participating in the Very Merry Holiday Hop from Henry Glass Fabrics. The first day today is Little Quilts and Linda Lum DeBono. Be sure to check out the Henry Glass Fabric Blog for the schedule of all the great designers and their fun projects.

It’s also so special to be starting the hop on Veteran’s Day. It’s the perfect day to honor  all those who serve our great country.

What better way to honor them, than with a Flag.

At Little Quilts, we love all things flag related. Our project is Little Quilt Flags, from our book, “Patriotic Little Quilts” published by Martingale & Company. The book is sold out but we have copies at the store. You can see them on our website.

These little flags are perfect for quick and easy gifts as wall hangings, placemats, or  pillows.

This is the time of year that we remember our favorites. I love angels and love to collect them and angel ornaments. I love to decorate with small trees with different themes around the house rather than one big tree.

A tradition of mine is buying a special ornament each year for my son and daughter as they were growing up. My son is now 42, and my daughter 35. When they married I gave them their ’stash’ of ornaments. Now my son and daughter are buying an ornament each year for their children.  Here is my daughter's tree, I remember buying so many of these ornaments for her while she was growing up!  And now the tree is getting full of the ornaments she has purchased for my 2 grandsons.  You can even see their elf, Buddy, perched on one of the branches; he visits every year to check in on the boys!

Some of my favorite foods BLT’s (bacon, lettuce & tomato sandwiches)  apple pie,  

and M & M’s.  All foods are really my favorites!

A favorite recipe for all the time but especially for the holidays is a cream cheese and olive spread. It’s red and green, so it’s perfect for this time of year.

Simple.. simple… simple…. A brick of cream cheese softened, then chop up a small jar of salad olives (the ones with green olives and pimentos). Stir that into the softened cream cheese. Put in a pretty glass vase, and spread on crackers or celery.

100 Blocks Blog Tour

I was so excited to have my block "Holiday Sue" chosen for the Vol. 6 of Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks Collector’s edition. Sunbonnet Sue has always been a favorite of Little Quilts. She’s featured in many of our books, and patterns. For this block, I appliquéd her using wool pieces. It’s so easy to appliqué with wool, you don’t have to needle turn the edges. I simply fused the pieces down with fusible webbing. Our favorite is Soft Fuse© by Shades Textiles, a local Marietta GA company. I had Holiday Sue carry a small tree that I stitched with the feather stitch and tiny red buttons. I was also surprised when they did a close-up of my tree stitchery on the editor’s page 4. Yikes I would have stitched better had I know it would be a close up! This block would make a cute pillow or center of a small wall hanging. Post a comment on this posting and we will do a random drawing for a Little Quilts Pattern “Friends” as well as our booklet “Wildflowers” – (by the way... both feature Sunbonnet Sue!)

Always quilt, no matter where or what

Brenda from Australia made this throw with the cuddle soft fabric for her daughter who goes to Ken Ease State College! The school mascot is an owl! How cute! We loaned her one of our Janome gem gold sewing machines and she sewed it in her hotel room great job!

Check out the new issue of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks from Today's Top Designers because Mary Ellen is one of the top designers!  Her block, "Holiday Sue" is so cute in wool applique and embroidery.  Look for block #515 to see Mary Ellen's block and on the Editor's page to see a close-up of the embroidery and embellishments.

If you're looking for something fun and different to do, let us suggest a trip to The Garden Keeper for a special exhibit of quilts - a one man show! - by one of our customers, Marshall Dewell.  Marshall's  beautiful quilts which will be displayed in the unique setting of a garden center on  Nov. 9 &10, and Nov. 16 & 17.  There will be a special open house on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 1 - 4pm for those of you who would like to meet Marshall.  Many of his quilts will be marked for sale.  The Garden Keeper is located at 104 Lakewood Rd. in Marietta, GA.

America the Beautiful

Risa selected the “America The Beautiful” pattern from American Patchwork & Quilting to make a fun quilt. We love it made up in Little Quilts line of fabric, Tanyard Creek!

Hurricane Schmuricane - quilter's are resourceful

The winds may howl and the electricity may be out, but nothing can deter two quilting friends from quilting – not even Hurricane Isaac. Lynn drove all the way to New Orleans to quilt with her friend. When the power went out, these two resourceful ladies got out the longest extension cords they could find

and ran them from the kitchen, through the garage, out of the house and into the basement of a neighbor who had a large generator that would power their sewing machines. 

By sitting close to the kitchen windows they had enough light to see. Where there’s a will there’s a way!

Wool Heirloom
